Acorn Bank National Trust Garden  


Muncaster Castle.  Ravenglass, south of Whitehaven. Quite a long way to go. Lots to see and do. The Rhododendrons are a must in May and June.    Combine this with a trip on the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway –‘The Ratty’ a miniature scale steam railway of considerable fame and a chance to see the beautiful Western Fells.  


Cragside (National Trust, Rothbury, Northumberland) The home of the electric lightbulb and hydro electricity. A Victorian mansion in wooded gardens.


Wallington (National Trust, Northumberland)Fine Georgian House with a fabulous walled garden

 

Drumlanrig Castle. Owned by The Duke of Buccleuch, a wonderful Baronial Castle with magnificent pictures and furniture  



Bowhill House – Another impressive Buccleuch residence.




Abbotsford House – Sir Walter Scott’s Home on the banks of The River Tweed



Dumfries House – Another long haul but well worth seeing this Ayrshire gem , possibly combine with a visit to Culzean Castle
