The Lake District to the South, The Solway Coast to the West, The Southern Uplands to The North and The Pennines to the East means that there is no shortage of good walking in the area.


Major Routes


The Southern Uplands Way is closest at Beattock

The Pennine Way is closest at Greenhead

Hadrians Wall Walk is nearest at Irthington and Carlisle.

Northern Lakeland Fells are easily accessed from Caldbeck.

Locally


Riverside walk to Longtown. There is a right of way from Kirkandrews Church to Longtown along the riverside.



River Lyne NY45196978 A lovely walk along wooded banks of the River Lyne.


Tarras Water NY38138113 Follow this river up onto the moorland above Langholm.


There is a right to roam anywhere in Scotland (excluding houses, gardens, farmyards, industrial premises and land with growing crops. In England the right to roam is restricted to Moorland and Coastal paths
